
Ian qualified as a PE teacher in 1976 after spending 12 years working in the insurance industry. He became a headteacher and then an inspector in a local education authority. He retired from full-time work 5 years ago. Kathy was a secretary and office administrator. She undertook a Further Education teachers' certificate in 1990 and spent some time teaching word-processing to adults. She retired from full-time employment at the same time as Ian.
With time on their hands they decided to learn Latin dance and attended their local dance school. Salsa, rumba, cha cha, samba were added to their repertoire - what next? Why not try ballroom, with a wonderfully patient teacher they now have Gold bar 1 with honours. They also took Latin Gold exam in May 2009 and again achieved honours. The personal dancing examinations were suspended for a period whilst Ian worked towards achieving a professional dance qualification. He very recently qualified as an Associate of the United Kingdom Alliance of professional dance teachers.
